You are the Hanged Man

Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.

With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear of
loss from a situation, rather than gain.

The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.

The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

21st-Jan-2008 10:55 pm - Really?

Your Score: Arcane Trickster

40% Combativeness, 60% Sneakiness, 76% Intellect, 33% Spirituality

Brilliant and sneaky: You are an Arcane Trickster!

Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you've fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you're an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't.

Arcane Tricksters combine arcane magic with rogue skills and sensibilities. They use their magic to confuse their opponents or to augment their more mundane, roguish skills. If you thought it was annoying keeping an eye that that rogue, the Arcane Trickster is probably picking your pocket from the other side of the room.

Both smart and sneaky, you're probably the type of person that loves planning practical jokes... either that or knocking over banks.

For a long time I'd been thinking about buying a power miter saw. The problem was that a) I didn't really have anything to do with it and b) I couldn't justify the $798 for the big DeWalt DW718 double bevel sliding compound miter saw that I really wanted.

That all changed when we had new hardwood flooring installed last fall leaving me to do the baseboards. And of course the new baseboards didn't go with the old door casings so I had to rip off 11 doorways worth of casing.

Add to that the $500 I got for my birthday and the $150 Home Depot Gift card that DeWalt was offering and suddenly I had both the the motive and the means!

$150 of my money (plus tax of course), 11 doorways of casing and 70' worth of baseboards made it a no-brainer!

On Sunday I set up the saw on the patio - 14' baseboards don't fit in my workshop for some reason ;-) - and went to work.

For those who appreciate power tools all I can saw is "Wow!". For those who don't appreciate power tools, well, you'll just never understand.

You feel yourself floating through a grey, featureless space. You have no recollection of who you are nor how you got here … wherever “here” is. After an immeasurable period of time, or whatever passes for time here, you hear in the distance off to your left what might be voices. Simply thinking of the direction seems to take you slowly towards the sound.

Eventually you can begin to make out what are surely voices. They seems to be talking about someone who is asleep and won’t wake up.

"Try harder, we can't lose this one," from the first voice. Female? Young boy?

"Leave me be and let me concentrate," from a gruff elder voice.

"More talantha I think," from a third. Calmer, this one.

Suddenly you feel, no taste something bitter on your tongue. You feel like the world is spinning around you even though there is nothing to see. You flair your arms in an attempt to make it stop but to no avail.

"Look! I saw an arm twitch!" from the young one.

"Have faith, daughter," calmly. "We will not allow this one to become lost."

The grey about you turns to black and the whirling stops with a sudden jolt. There is something at your back and you realize you are lying down. Apparently in some kind of bed, under a simple blanket.

"There, I think all will be well now. Thank-you brother Gerrold."

"Hmph! If you'd keep the young one silent there'd never have been cause to doubt!" complains the gruff one. From the sounds, it would seem that he is standing to leave.

"Now Gerrold, I'm sure she didn't mean to interrupt. And you know that she needs training just as we all did."

Confused, you struggle to open your eyes but feel a hand gently caress your forehead and cover your eyes.

"Relax, you're safe. No need to rise too soon. A side effect of the talantha will make you sleep." The girl's voice is the last thing you hear as you drift off again into what you know this time is simply sleep.
2nd-Mar-2007 01:47 pm - Things that go bump in the night
Well, that was one hell of a storm last night.

Jo woke up around 2:00 am and was listening to the wind knocking ice and bits of trees around. I woke up 'round 2:30 and we both were getting pretty worried given the tree in the back yard that has a seriously large limb stretching over the house.

There were even a few blue flashes I figure were from power lines sparking.

About 3:00, just as I was dropping off to sleep again there was a loud bang. We both jumped a mile, sure it was the limb over the house.

The good news, it wasn't.

The bad news.

Nothing important was hit fortunately - missed the house, and the neighbour's. It did take out the neighbour's TV cable line though. And the fence will have to be rebuilt of course.

You scored as Storyteller. The Storyteller is in it for the plot: the sense of mystery and the fun of participating in a narrative that has the satisfying arc of a good book or movie. He enjoys interacting with well-defined NPCs, even preferring antagonists who have genuine motivations and personality to mere monsters. To the Storyteller, the greatest reward of the game is participating in a compelling story with interesting and unpredictable plot threads, in which his actions and those of his fellow characters determine the resolution.
